oh, the joys of motherhood
as if the torture of sleep deprivation wasn't enough. today, my 6 year old tells me, with a smirk on his face, that he thinks he knows more than me.

simon says
i've probably told most of you about how simon thinks it's his mission in life to stop people from littering. it's so cute how worked up he gets when he sees trash on the ground. he says, "we need to tell them not to litter! god made the world and we need to take care of it!". (this is from him, not something we've told him!)
so, the funniest thing happened today as we were in the drive thru. we saw this guy scraping stuff off the ground in the parking lot and putting it into a bucket. simon was very curious about what he was doing and as we got closer we saw that it was gum he was scraping. simon said, "oh, he must be one of god's workers!".

Happy New Year!
We get to start each new year by celebrating the birth of our sweet Simon. He is such a joy in our lives and we love to give him a special day all about him. He loves spending New Year's Eve at Gigi and Boppa's and waking up to a special birthday breakfast. Gigi makes him one of those great initial-letter pancakes and this year he got an "S" and an "I." We picked him up and took him to lunch at Sonic and to play in the arcade at Family Fun Center with his BFF, Megan and fam. Did you know you can fit 10 people in a Vanagon for lunch? Unfortunately we forgot the camera, so there's no photographic evidence.
Next was home for Simon's bedroom surprise. We decorated his room with new curtains, bedding, bean bags, posters and other treasured kindergarten-boy decor. Great uncle Dave and Boppa put up a huge white erase board on one wall for his artistic moments. The true measure of his character came when he gave Ollie a toddler-sized Superman doll from his room and insisted on putting it next to his little brother while he was sleeping so he'd find it as soon as he woke from his nap.. For dinner it was back to Gigi and Boppa's for pizza, cake and more good times. Everyone deserves this much fun at least once a year, and no one had to have a hangover.
